1 Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using LocalPDFs ("we," "us," or "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and LocalPDFs regarding your use of our website, tools, and services (collectively, the "Service").

Important

If you are using LocalPDFs on behalf of an organization, you represent and warrant that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify users of material changes by posting the updated Terms on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.

2 Service Description

LocalPDFs provides client-side PDF processing tools. Our Service allows you to:

Organize, Modify, Convert, and Optimize PDF documents
Merge, Split, Delete and Rearrange PDF pages
Rotate, Add numbers, Unlock, Lock, Add watermark
Convert between PDF and image formats
Compress PDF documents

Technical Architecture

All processing occurs entirely within your web browser using client-side JavaScript. We do not operate servers that process your files. This is not merely a policy choice—it is a technical impossibility for us to access your PDF content.

3 Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use LocalPDFs. If you are under 18, you must have permission from a parent or legal guardian.

By using LocalPDFs, you represent and warrant that:

You meet the minimum age requirement
You have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms
You are not barred from using the Service under applicable law
You will comply with these Terms and all applicable laws

4 User Accounts

Current Status: No Accounts Required

As of March 2026, LocalPDFs does not require user accounts. All tools are accessible without registration.

When we launch Advanced LocalPDFs (planned), the following will apply:

You must provide accurate and complete information when creating an account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials
You must notify us immediately of any unauthorized access or security breach
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms

Account deletion: You may request account deletion at any time by contacting us. We will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.

5 Acceptable Use

You agree to use LocalPDFs only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms. You are solely responsible for:

Ensuring you have rights to all PDFs you process

Sensitive Data

Protecting confidential information in your documents

Security

Maintaining security of your devices and browsers

Compliance

Following all applicable laws and regulations

You understand that LocalPDFs operates entirely in your browser. We cannot and do not monitor, review, or moderate the content of PDFs you process.

6 Prohibited Activities

You agree not to use LocalPDFs for any of the following purposes:

Illegal Activities

Processing PDFs related to fraud, identity theft, terrorism, child exploitation, or any violation of applicable law

Unauthorized Access

Attempting to bypass password protection on PDFs you do not own or have rights to access

Malware Distribution

Embedding or distributing malicious code, viruses, or harmful content through PDFs

Service Abuse

Automated scraping, denial-of-service attacks, or circumventing usage limits through technical means

Reverse Engineering

Decompiling, disassembling, or attempting to extract source code from our tools (except where permitted by open source licenses)

Enforcement: We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action against violations, including reporting to law enforcement and terminating access.

7 Intellectual Property

Our IP

LocalPDFs name, logo, website design, and original code are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Our open source components are licensed under their respective licenses (primarily MIT).

Your IP

You retain all rights to PDFs you process. We claim no ownership, license, or rights to your content. Our technical architecture makes it impossible for us to retain copies.

Open Source

Portions of LocalPDFs are open source under the MIT License. You are free to use, modify, and distribute that code in accordance with the license terms. Attribution is appreciated.

8 Your Content

"Content" refers to any PDF files, images, or other materials you upload to LocalPDFs for processing.

You Retain Ownership

We claim no rights to your PDFs. You retain all intellectual property rights.

No Storage by Us

Files exist only in your browser memory. We cannot access, copy, or retain them.

Your Responsibility

You are solely responsible for your content and ensuring you have rights to process it.

Sensitive Content Warning

While our architecture prevents us from accessing your files, you are responsible for protecting sensitive data. Ensure your device is secure, use strong passwords, and follow your organization's data handling policies.

9 Privacy & Data Protection

Your privacy is our core value. Our Privacy Policy, incorporated by reference into these Terms, explains how we handle information:

Files never transmitted to servers

No Tracking

No cookies or fingerprinting

Encrypted

HTTPS for all connections

We collect minimal data:

Advanced waitlist emails: Voluntarily provided when you request notifications
Anonymized analytics: Page views, device type (no personal identifiers)
Technical logs: IP addresses (anonymized), request paths (30-day retention)

10 Disclaimers & Warranties

Important Legal Notice

LocalPDFs is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

No Guarantee of Results

We do not guarantee that PDF processing will produce error-free results. Always verify output before critical use.

Browser Compatibility

Service requires modern browsers with JavaScript and WebAssembly support. We do not support Internet Explorer.

File Compatibility

Not all PDF features are supported. Complex PDFs (forms, JavaScript, multimedia) may not process correctly.

No Legal Advice

LocalPDFs is not a legal service. Redaction, password removal, and other features do not constitute legal compliance guarantees.

11 Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, LocalPDFs and its operators shall not be liable for any:

Direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages

Loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities

Damages from unauthorized access to your device

Errors, omissions, or loss of content in processed PDFs

Cap on Liability: In no event shall our total liability exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the claim, or $100 USD, whichever is greater. For free tier users, liability is capped at $0.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for consequential or incidental damages, so the above limitation may not apply to you.

12 Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless LocalPDFs, its operators, affiliates, and agents from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs, or debt, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees) arising from:

Your use of and access to the Service
Your violation of any term of these Terms
Your violation of any third-party right, including copyright, property, or privacy right
Any claim that your content caused damage to a third party
Any illegal or unauthorized use of the Service by you

This defense and indemnification obligation will survive these Terms and your use of the Service.

13 Termination

By You

You may stop using LocalPDFs at any time. For free tier users, no action is required. For Pro users (when available), follow cancellation procedures in account settings.

By Us

We may suspend or terminate your access immediately, without prior notice or liability, for any reason, including breach of these Terms.

Effect of Termination: Upon termination, your right to use the Service immediately ceases. All provisions of these Terms which by their nature should survive termination shall survive, including ownership provisions, warranty disclaimers, indemnity, and limitations of liability.

14 Changes to Terms

We reserve the right to modify or replace these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by:

Posting the updated Terms on this page with a revised "Last Updated" date
Displaying a prominent notice on our homepage
Emailing Pro waitlist subscribers for significant changes

Effective Date

Changes are effective immediately upon posting, unless otherwise stated. Your continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you must stop using the Service.

15 Governing Law & Disputes
